While dressing in the most fashionable threads is crucial in sprucing up your look, taking care of your skin is equally important. These days, facial mists have become the go-to product for a refreshing mid-day pick-me-up and an indispensable part of our skincare and even makeup routines. Originally developed as a dermatological product to be used for burn patients in hospitals, the range of mists these days has grown exponentially to include essential oils, exotic essences and other fragrances in their list of ingredients. Here are 4 reasons why we love facial mists!
1. Cools down and invigorates skin
In sweltering summer temperatures, facial mists are choice items to use to cool down and instantly refresh heated skin. They are also great for use in air-conditioned environments and during the cold wintry months where our skin gets exceptionally dry. Give your parched skin some much-needed moisture by misting your face and letting it sit for a few seconds. But remember to gently pat the mist on your face dry with a piece of tissue and not let it dry naturally on your face. This is because as the water evaporates from the skin, it also draws out moisture, which could actually make skin drier that it was to begin with.
2. Revives hair
When you need to refresh or reshape your hairstyle in the middle of the day, spraying a fine mist over your hair can help to revive your mane in a cinch. Plus, they dry quickly so you don’t have to bother about getting a hair dryer either.
3. Preps skin for extra hydration
Similar to how we apply body lotion on damp skin right after taking a shower, spraying your face with some mist after cleansing and applying your favourite moisturiser straight on top helps to lock in moisture to the upper layers of the skin better. And the stuff used in facial mists are either purified water, thermal or spring water, so compared to water from the tap, they are better for use under all those hydrating ingredients that you would be layering on top.
4. Helps with makeup
Ever coveted that dewy “no-makeup” makeup look sported by all those top celebs? Lightly spray some facial mist before applying moisturiser and also before putting on your base makeup (primer, foundation, etc). You can also mist as the last step of your makeup routine to reduce the matte-ness of your foundation, or tone down the colour of your blush, but beware not to spray too much or too close, lest your makeup smears.
Spraying facial mist halfway through the day also helps in the longevity of your makeup too, since the hydrating properties of the mist will ensure that your skin doesn’t get too dry (thus eating your makeup). But do take note that facial mists are not makeup setting sprays; those contain alcohol.
