Your base makeup is flawless and your clothes are fashionably on-point, but you feel the urge to try something different and fun for your eye makeup. While the classic cat eye is a go-to look for many, sometimes it’s fun to mix things up for a bit too. So check out some ways to enhance your makeup looks with just eyeliner alone!
1. Double up
Like that song from Boys Like Girls, “two is better than one”. Turn up the notch with your eye makeup with not just one, but two winged tips for your eyeliner. Not only does this give your look an extra dramatic edge, but it will also make sure that everyone is drawn to your eyes first! To do this, just do your usual winged eyeliner and mimic that shape with the bottom eye line by lining it from half to the outer corner, making sure that it’s parallel to the wing above.
2. Pop of colour(s)
An easy way to make a statement with your eye makeup is to experiment with colours. You could replace your usual black (or brown) eyeliner with a brightly coloured one, or just use it above for a subtle touch that makes a lot of difference. You can even go for a fade ombre effect if you want to try this out without going all out, just pick two or more coloured liners that are in the same gradient colour family. Start at the inner corner of the eye and line the first three-quarters of the lash line with a light coloured eyeliner. Then get a darker coloured eyeliner and start lining from the outside corner of the eye, going towards the middle of the eye where the lighter colour stops halfway. Then either use your finger or a brush to gently blend the middle part where the colours overlap.
3. Glitter
If you’re looking to transform your look from day to night and add some sparkle to your look, substitute traditional black for a line of glitter.
4. Bottoms up
Put a spin on all those other eyeliner techniques and flip it upside down, literally. Instead of winging the liner at the top eye line, do it on the bottom instead. That goes for coloured eyeliner too! This technique is good for those with hooded eyes or monolids, because your eyeliner doesn’t have to “disappear” and your eyes can still grab attention.
5. Puppy dog eyes
This is the total opposite of the classic cat eye (fitting, right?). Instead of flicking the eyeliner upwards, you have to draw along the natural eye shape and extend it just a little downwards diagonally, then fill in the last third of your bottom eye line to connect to the downward wing. Remember to make sure that this bottom line thins out as it goes toward the inner corners, like the cat eye. In South Korea, this adorable type of eyeliner look has gotten really popular in recent years. And it’s easy to see why, this eyeliner look really makes eyes appear bigger, rounder and super cute, like a puppy. If you are looking for something that’s fun, but not as sexy as a cat eye, try this out instead!
