It has been said that the eyes are the windows to a person’s soul. Wearing glasses doesn’t mean that your peepers should disappear behind them, they can also serve as amazingly stylish accessories that flatter fashion looks from day to night. Check out these 5 makeup tips will help you look gorgeously geeky-chic in your glasses!
1. Eyebrows
Eyebrows help to frame your face, even when you are wearing glasses. And depending on how big or small your frames are, they may or may not hide your brows. Most frames show the top of your eyebrows, so keeping them well-defined and well-groomed in important in giving a polished, gorgeous look that echoes the overall neat and intellectual look that spectacles give. Brush brows up and over away from your hair, tweeze stray hairs, fill in sparse areas with a colour that isn’t too far off from your hair colour, and brow over brows once more to blend everything. Use a brow mascara to set it all!
2. Eyeshadow
A general rule to follow is if your frames are thick or multi-coloured, it’s best to stick to more muted, neutral colours. Conversely, you could get more adventurous with eyeshadow colours if the frames are thinner and are not brightly-coloured. Shimmery shades are universally flatting and won’t look heavy on your eyes, so you can use it all over your eyelid as well as on your inner tear ducts to open up your eyes more. Do remember to prime your eyes before applying eyeshadow, so the colours stay put for as long as possible.
3. Lashes
Every makeup guru will agree that you should curl your lashes, regardless of whether you wear glasses or not, because it just opens up the eyes and makes them look bigger. Bring some extra definition back to your eyes behind those glasses by first curling your lashes and then apply mascara, being careful not to overdose on mascara for your bottom lashes as this will cast shadows under the eyes. Take note to focus the lash curling and the application of mascara at the roots first, then ease up towards the ends.
4. Eyeliner
Whether your eyes are big or small, a little bit of eyeliner goes a long way in defining them behind those glasses. Remember: the thicker your frames, the thicker your liner should be, and vice versa. This will add balance to your makeup look. And when in doubt, always go with a cat-eye, this will give your eyes a ‘lift’ behind the frames and make them easily noticeable.
5. Lipstick
A bold lip is the best way to breathe more life to your face without piling on loads of eye makeup, and girls with glasses get away with this look the best. A daring red lip looks absolutely gorgeous with statement frames and a classic cat eye. But if you are going to go dramatic with your eyeshadow, don’t go overboard with bright lip shades.
6. Complexion
Regardless of whether you play up your eyes or lips, great-looking skin always looks beautiful. Use a foundation with a matte finish or set with a light powder to prevent the spectacles from sliding down your face. And as your glasses can highlight dark eye circles and cast shadows underneath the eyes, remember to conceal properly with an eye-brightening concealer.
