A-Line Dresses
In 1955, French designer Christian Dior introduced A-Line dresses for his spring collection. It was, as described, “… a fingertip-length flared jacket worn over a dress with a very full, pleated skirt”. In short, it resembles the first letter in the English alphabet and is meant to flatter just about every body type there is.
The Shift Dress
In the 1920, Flappers were known to break norms in society and they often wore a version of that shift dress decorated in fringe and other types of embellishments. It’s described basically as a sleeveless dress that hangs from the shoulders, but designers have managed to create other variations of the timeless dress.
Fun fact: They called it a “shift” dress mainly because it’s easier to dance around in since Flappers usually wore them out to dance.
Lace Dress
Lace has been around since the 1600s and is basically a delicate piece of fabric that is made to resemble webs. It was made to reflect the sophistication of the aristocrats from back then. Now, it has been incorporated mainly in weddings in a white silhouette.
An Evening Gown
Gowns started off from those elegant yet incredibly big ball gowns in chiffon or silk. It has always been worn to attend formal events like weddings, debuts or basically anything that’s black-tie. It’s basic evening wear for us women.
The LBD
From the 1920s, Coco Chanel and Jean Patou’s designs of their little black dresses were described in history to be versatile yet long-lasting in the most neutral color of all — Black. We’ve been told, all these years, that the LBD is a closet staple and that it’s one thing that a woman cannot do without. Its silhouette may have changed over the years, but the LBD tops ’em all even with different variations of the classic.
