Did you know that there is a difference between having dry skin and dehydrated skin?
The basic difference is that dry skin requires more oil while dehydrated skin needs more water. Two different solutions for two very different skin conditions. Countering either of them with the wrong solution is not only futile, but may also worsen the condition.
So how can you tell if your skin is dehydrated or dry?
- If you have dry skin, you probably have flaking skin and rough patches.
- If you have dehydrated skin, your face would still feel tight and look dull even after you apply moisturiser.
The short answer? Hydration.
Hydration basically means increasing the amount of water in your skin cells to produce a healthy and plump complexion free of fine lines.
This water can come from the water we drink regularly or hydrating ingredients in skincare products like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or honey. These humectants help to bind and retain moisture in the skin.
To Treat Dry Skin
- Use an oil-based cleanser. The idea is to restore and replenish the natural oils that your skin can’t produce enough of on its own.
- Add a rich, nourishing oil to your skincare routine that leave your skin feeling rejuvenated and hydrated.
To Treat Dehydrated Skin
- This sounds redundant, but it’s the oldest advice in the book: drink lots of water!
- Apply serums that contain hyaluronic acid and collagen. These ingredients bring your skin back to life.
Don’t leave your skin feeling thirsty! Figure out what condition your skin has and treat it accordingly.
