For a character to be named after one of the most coveted fashion labels, you better be sure that she looks fine, fresh and fierce. And Chanel Oberlin has managed achieve all of that. This reigning leader of Kappa Kappa Tau is known for more than just her snide insults and holier-than-thou attitude. She demands for attention and power not just through her actions but with her sense of style as well. Blessed with ridiculously deep pockets and powerful familial connections, this Chanel shows us just how is it to pull off a look of opulence and indulgence befitting of the title ‘Chanel Number 1’.
Bigger the better
There is no such thing as minimalism when it comes to dressing up for Ms Oberlin. Bigger is always better for Chanel and she displays her authority with huge fringes and large fur coats. This look of grandiose and luxury is something we all wish we could afford (and pull off). If you are one of those lucky people who own a fur coat, remember to keep the rest of your pieces fitted so you aren’t consumed in fabric and look like Chewbacca instead of a Chanel.
Capes aren’t just for superheros
The protagonist of Scream Queens is not exactly the hero of the show, but that isn’t going to stop her from wearing caplets to flaunt her rule and power. Choosing to go for this unique silhouette is sure to command attention and turn heads. Like Chanel, go for caplets made of laced and lightweight materials to exude graceful elegance. To pull this look off successfully, play with high-low pieces so you stay sexy and tasteful.
See sheer in a new light
This is easily my favourite look from the show. With a soft and delicate sheer train falling at her sides, it elevates this plain white getup to something exquisite and so very refined. Contrast the soft look with hard accessories to achieve textural interest — gold studded gloves and a pearl necklace in this case creates an air of grandeur that makes this look show-stoppingly powerful yet soft and ethereal. When playing with sheer pieces, keep them loose so you don’t look risqué and rude.
Shine bright with pastels
The girls in the show are huge on pastels — they attract the eyes more with their soft and delicious milky hues like lavender, blush pink and the tiffany blue look above. These dainty colours are also a good counterpoint to the exaggerated pieces that Chanel likes to wear, toning down the richness of her looks so they aren’t that cloying. Try pieces in pastels for a change to achieve something feminine and unpredictable. But if you ain’t ready to pledge full allegiance to this bright and effervescent colour scheme, try starting small by pairing pastel pieces with neutrals for a soft yet bold look.
