Move aside, prepsters. Nerd is in, and it’s time to get with all things geeky. If you want in, get out your pen and paper and note down this piece of sartorial advice
1. Sassy specs: Being a four eyed creature is in vogue, and you’d be surprised at the number of people wear glasses without actually needing them. (Fake nerd glasses, anyone?) Intelligence and personal style do go hand in hand, and need not be compromised. A good pair of specs really does highlight your face better.
2. Pull Up Your Socks: No, we’re not talking about school uniform-style ankle length socks. We’re talking retro, knee high warmers which go wonderfully with any kind of footwear-sneakers, ballet flats, heels, you name it! Play around with the combination of solid colours and bold prints-either a monochrome shoe and crazily patterned pair of socks, or the reverse. Don’t hide your socks away, they’re part of the show!
3. The Scholarly Collar: No, we are not asking you to bring your old school uniforms out of the closet. if you were a particularly rebellious child who loved to innovate with your uniform in order to suit your personal style, then this trend is for you.
4. Fashionable Backpacks: Backpacks have also upgraded themselves to keep up with the style of the times. Gone are the days when backpacks were boring old clumps of monochrome. Twenty-first century backpacks feature a whole lot of colour, prints and styles. Sure, the school-going kids of today are much luckier, but that doesn’t mean that we adults can’t treat ourselves to one of these storage beauties.
5. Dungarees: Remember when your parents sent you to school in jumpsuits and dungarees? Luckily for us, the 90s have definitely not disappeared from the fashion radar altogether. In fact, they have managed to stay on with a vengeance. Jumpsuits and dungarees have also evolved with the times, and now feature various materials, textures and silhouettes.
